Why KARI Pilates Exists
At the heart of KARI Pilates is a simple belief. You deserve to feel truly cared for and treated as an individual. That belief made KARI Pilates the first in the area to offer one-on-one, true Classical Contrology with lineage-based instruction. Typically found in larger cities such as New York and Los Angeles, this therapeutic experience is now available close to home in Western New York. You leave stronger, moving with ease and confidence. We welcome, recognize, and truly honor each student as a welcomed guest at our home, House Eleva.
What is Classical Pilates?
Classical Pilates is the method Joseph Pilates developed in the 1920s and originally called Contrology. It preserves his traditional exercises, their sequence, and the integrated use of the High Mat and other classical equipment. The method is called classical because it is passed from teacher to student through an unbroken lineage. That heritage makes it authentic.
This connected system emphasizes the original three foundational Pilates principles highlighted within our Insignia, known as the three "C"s (Control, Concentration, and Centering), which promote precise, mindful movement from the body's powerhouse. Rather than treating each exercise as a separate movement, Classical Pilates approaches the work as a connected system. Each precise movement builds core strength, flexibility, and a deeper mind-body connection. You learn on handcrafted apparatus, building real strength from the inside out.
Who Classical Pilates Helps
KARI Pilates was designed for individuals who want something more intentional than a class in a crowded room. Each person who comes through our doors brings different needs, goals, and a history with their body.
